    Homepage Editing Basics

How to edit your homepage in the Swell editor using blocks and patterns without breaking your site layout.

    Reapit WebsitesUpdated 2026-06-15

    Overview

Your homepage is built in the Swell editor — a block and pattern based editor that lets you update content while keeping your agency's design intact. This article covers:

    • Opening your homepage in the Swell editor
    • Editing existing content
    • Adding a new section with patterns
    • Saving and checking your changes

Opening your homepage in the Swell editor

    1. From the admin dashboard, navigate to Appearance › Editor.
    2. Select Pages, then choose Home.
    3. Select the preview to enter editing mode. The homepage loads as a stack of blocks and patterns.

Note: The Swell editor edits your real homepage. Changes are not visible to visitors until you select Save, but there is no separate draft copy — review carefully before saving.

    Editing existing content

    1. Click any text on the page to edit it in place — headlines, button labels and paragraphs are all directly editable.
    2. To swap an image, select it, choose Replace in the block toolbar, and pick from the media library or upload.
    3. Select a block and use the Settings panel on the right to adjust its options, such as a button's link or a section's background.
    4. Use the List View icon (three offset lines, top-left) to see the page structure and select nested blocks precisely.

Tip: If you select the wrong block, press Escape and use List View instead of clicking. Sections are often several blocks deep.

Adding a new section with patterns

Patterns are pre-designed sections styled to match your site:

    1. In List View, select the block after which the new section should appear.
    2. Select the + icon and open the Patterns tab.
    3. Browse categories such as Call to action, Testimonials and Featured listings, and select a pattern to insert it.
    4. Replace the placeholder text and images with your own content.

    Saving and checking your changes

    1. Select Save in the top-right corner, confirm the items being saved, and select Save again.
    2. Open your live site in a new tab and hard-refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R) to see the change.
    3. Check the homepage on your phone as well — patterns are responsive, but long headlines can wrap differently on small screens.

Tip: If something goes wrong, contact support before rebuilding the section — the team can restore an earlier revision of the page.
